Actions speak louder than words

I guess you know the saying and yes, we often see people who only talk but never seem to take action. Spending time talking without taking necessary steps might seem like you are doing something, but it usually does not produce results. It can be like hoping for a miracle to happen – it rarely does!

We are leaving a lot of money on the table by allowing the gender gap to continue. I believe we all have a responsibility to address these hurdles and take action rather than just talk. Unfortunately, issues and barriers related to unconscious bias, gender inequality, lack of equal opportunities and discrimination still exist.

In order to narrow the gender gap and start reaping the economic benefits of gender parity it is important to learn how to recognize gender inequality. Gender inequality is for example:

➡️ Unequal pay

➡️ Unequal treatment

➡️ Uneven access to training

➡️ Uneven career opportunities

➡️ Unequal representation on boards and leadership teams

Once you are aware of these inequalities and have insight into the key issues in your organisation, it will get easier to take proper action towards closing the gender gap.

Surely it is not a quick fix and it is true that there are still a lot of bumps on the road to overcome, but doing nothing is no option. Doing nothing would mean that it will take generations in order to close the gender gap. My vision and hopes for the future are more positive than that! I hope yours are too.

As Benjamin Franklin once said: “Well done is better than well said.” I hope these wise words are an encouragement to you to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk.
